HTC is hoping to capture the hearts and wallets of consumers with two of its new smartphones—the U Ultra and the U Play. The U Ultra is the flagship of the two and as leaked earlier has a secondary display reminiscent of the LG V10/V20. HTC drops the metallic look for a super glossy, all-glass exterior, which the company calls “Liquid Surface.” The more budget-friendly U Play doesn’t get the secondary screen but has that glossy exterior, too.
The “U” part in the name signifies a new artificial intelligence enhancement HTC calls HTC Sense companion. It merges built-in voice assistants from the company and Google’s own services. Like other AI features, it’s said to learn your habits and the like to predict what you’ll need from the device.
Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 8:44PM The wait is almost over. The Android Nougat 7.0 update for the Samsung Galaxy S7 is landing as an over-the-air update in Europe and should be rolling out to more markets soon. For those who’ve joined the beta program, it’s highly likely you’ll be getting the update first when it reaches your market. The update is 215MB in size and comes not just with the Nougat update but with a new UX added in the package and other “performance modes” and improvements. Just keep your eye out for the update to head your way and make sure you have enough battery (or charge your S7) while you update your phone.

Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 8:31PM Better late than never they say. It’s being reported in Japan that Sony plans to finally make a switch to OLED displays for its smartphones by next year or the year after. So far, the Japanese company has only used LCD panels for its phones. If true, this’ll put them at par in the display game with the likes of Samsung and other brands, who have been using OLED screens for its flagship devices.
At the moment, Samsung is the biggest manufacturer of OLED screens for phones. Sony is reportedly waiting for LG and JDI to boost production of OLED screens so they can buy the panels from them instead. And these panels could be ready by 2018 or 2019.
