Microsoft plans to stop production of Surface 3 by December 2016

Microsoft is set to close its doors on its Surface 3 tablet by the end of the year. The tech company plans to stop production of the entry-level 2-in-1, which it first launched in May 2015. According to a statement by Microsoft, “Inventory is now limited and by the end of December 2016, we will no longer manufacture Surface 3 devices.”

We don’t know yet what Microsoft plans to introduce in the hardware space. They currently have the Surface Pro 4, which they launched last October, and the Surface Book laptop. According to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, Microsoft could be waiting for the next overhaul of Windows 10, which is called Redstone 2 internally, before they introduce new devices. Or they could follow their usual timeline and introduce a new device in the fall.

Sony takes the slow approach to smartphone charging

Fast charging is an excellent feature, particularly when you’re in a hurry. But with it comes the dangers of extreme wear and tear, especially if the charger isn’t certified. The heat produced when you’re charging quickly can shorten your smartphone battery’s life span. To extend the life of its batteries further, Sony has introduced Soft Charging in the beta version of the Marshmallow AOSP update for the “classics” Sony Xperia Z2 and Z3. What it does is it “slows down” charging to keep the temperature of the battery as cool as possible. You can activate soft charging with its own on/off toggle.

Yahoo Mail brings undo send to iOS app

Yahoo Mail has brought a lot of new features into its iOS and Android app, including bringing over Stationery to Android. But the one feature we know users will appreciate is being able to take back emails, much like what you can do with Gmail. There is now an undo send option for the Yahoo Mail iOS app. When you send out an email after tapping send, an “undo” option will pop up at the bottom of your inbox feed for about three seconds, so yes, you have to react fast. There is no word yet when this’ll make it into the Android app. But Yahoo does now allow Android users to disable the swipe to delete function and customizable spacing between emails in your feed to make it more condense or to see snippets of an email. You can check out the rest of the features here.
