Acer’s Liquid Jade 2 introduces 1TB hybrid cloud storage

Acer’s taking some cues from the Nextbit Robin with one of its new smartphones launched at Mobile World Congress 2016. The new Liquid Jade 2 will be offering a hybrid cloud storage that is ten times more than what the Nextbit Robin is offering. So, yes instead of 100GB storage, you get 1TB of it. According to Acer, it “seamlessly integrates local storage with cloud storage.” But we have to test it out first to see how “seamless” it actually is.

In terms of hardware specs, the Liquid Jade successor carries a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage (on top of the 1TB cloud storage), a 21MP rear camera with dual LED flash and 4K video recording, and an 8MP front camera. It’s an LTE Cat 6 device that runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. No details yet on the battery and pricing and availability of the Jade 2. For multimedia junkies though, that hybrid storage could be a very attractive feature.

Asthma inhaler prototype can easily slip into your wallet

If the Bloom Inhaler gets approval, this new inhaler design will make it easy for you to slip it into your wallet or back pocket. At just 54mm across, 85mm long, and 4.3mm thick, it’s roughly the thickness of five ordinary credit cards. It can hold six puffs of aerosol asthma medication. You can insert the canister of a regular inhaler into the Bloom’s matching port. You depress it six times to load the six doses into the slim inhaler. A hermetic seal stops the medication from leaking out. It works HFA inhalers and has been tested extensively.

To use the Bloom, you make use of the “Open Mouth Technique,” which is rather similar to breath spray. You press and then inhale through the opening like you would your current inhaler. They’re currently waiting for FDA approval, which is expected to come in November. The price for the Bloom Inhaler is US$40 or about $54.

iOS 9.3 beta 4 is now available with Touch ID Notes and Night Shift feature

The latest versions can be used to test iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices ahead of next month's official release. iOS 9.3 beta 4 brings new features like Nigh Shift, which changes the hue of the iOS devices at night to reduce blue hues (in effect reducing stress to eyes and relaxing the brain).

The Notes app also gets the ability to hide specific notes behind password or be accessed via Touch ID with compatible devices. There are also 3D Touch updates for Quick Action shortcuts as well as Settings like battery, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi options.

Apple releases watchOS 2.2 beta for Apple Watch

Apple's continuing development on their watchOS. Version watchOS 2.2 beta 4 available today to developers brings an all new iteration of Apple Maps app and glance feature plus the ability to pair more than one Apple Watch to an iPhone. While there is a practical reason for owners of multiple Apple Watch models to switch on the fly (i.e. Watch for fashion, Watch Sport for working out), it also makes it possible for developers to test apps across various models and OS versions.

Maps has also become smarter with Nearby search powered by Yelp and the ability to instantly navigate to work and home address or find local addresses by type.
