Panasonic launches 4K-focused Lumix G7 mirrorless camera

Panasonic has been at the forefront of Micro-Four Thirds cameras and lenses, they're credited with some of the more iconic DSLR-killing mirrorless cameras which take great photos and even better videos. Pushing forward the need to create 4K video, the ne Panasonic G7 boasts improved auto-focus, a 2.36 million-dot electronic viewfinder, and a familiar 16 megapixel sensor which seems to be the ceiling for this type of camera.  It remains to be seen how 4K video capability will be viewed as a feature by consumers of a camera with an SRT of US $850 with a kit lens. Specially since a variety of smartphones offer 4K video capture at a lower price.

No Canadian pricing or availability for the Panasonic G7 camera has been released.

Samsung diversifying Galaxy S6 line with Blue Topaz S6 and Green Emerald S6 Edge

Blue Topaz and  Green Emerald, these are not variants of the popular Pokemon game but new colours coming to Samsung's flagship Galaxy S6 devices. The Blue Topaz is exclusive to the S6 and the Green Emerald is for the S6 Edge.

There's a rationale behind these colour choices which says that, "People who opt for Samsung’s Blue Topaz Galaxy S6 are likely to be more self-confident, fastidious, discriminating, sensitive, exacting, and intuitive,” said a British psychologist. The Green Emerald Galaxy S6 Edge users “tend to be balanced, loyal, hard-working, honest, benevolent and concerned for others.” Alrighty then. Availability and timing will depend on carriers so we'll stay tuned for Canadian-specific release news.

Pirated Windows 10 desktops will have watermarks on them

Microsoft caused a bit of a hullaballoo when a remark they made was interpreted as the company allowing pirated users of previous Windows versions to gain access to the free upgrade of Windows 10. Terry Myerson, EVP of OS for Microsoft, said that pirated copies of Windows 10 will be getting permanent watermarks on the desktop to serve as a reminder that they’re using an illegal copy of the OS.

They plan to make people with non-genuine versions of Windows to through the Windows Store to upgrade, which would more or less mean they have to pay. Myerson said though that they intend to offer “very attractive” genuine upgrades for these kinds of users. What they plan on doing, we don’t know just yet. Aside from the watermark though, Microsoft can go as far as not sending essential security updates to the pirated copies.
