Students honour Canadian soldiers with Juno Beach Project app

Hoping to pay tribute to the Canadian soldiers who fought on the beaches of Normandy, France on D-Day, grade 11 and 12 history and computer science students from Ontario developed the Juno Beach Project app on Windows Phone. The app features graphics that show access maps of the battlefields as well as the hour-by-hour progression of the Canadian regiments to Normandy. There is also a listing of regiments that fought on D-Day as well as stories of about 371 Canadians who died in combat. You can also get more information about the soldiers like their rank, regiment, hometown, education, employment prior to the war, date of death, and their burial location. You can download the app for free on the Windows Phone Store.

Get a great bod even without the gym with Gym Tuck

If you don’t have a budget for gym but want to get fit, there is an app ready to help you out. Celebrity trainer and fitness entrepreneur Joshua Lipsey has a new fitness app called Gym Tuck. The app has over 500+ tucks (fitness exercises) to choose from. There will be beginner and advanced descriptions as well as demonstration video from Joshua Lipsey in the app. You can also track your stats on the Gym Tuck graph and see which ones you can do better and which ones you enjoy doing.

But what sets this app apart is a method Lipsey calls BOYTAM or “Bet on yourself to achieve more.” This lets you bet on how many or how long you can hold a particular tuck for. This sort of starts an internal competition to help you overcome and even surpass your threshold. The app is available for free download on the iTunes App Store.

Facebook's F8 Developer Conference kicks off today

Mark Zuckerberg kicked off this year's Facebook F8 Developer conference which is available now as a live stream at f8.facebooklive.com. Focusing on the evolution of Facebook from a single application/service to a family of apps (they now own Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus Rift and have Messenger), the social network needs to navigate the evolving waters of how people prefer to use the service.

"Going back five years, Facebook was about text and status updates. Now it is all about photos and fast-forward to the future, it will be video and maybe VR (virtual reality) and AR (Augmented Reality)," Zuckerberg stated during his keynote. Video, new user features as well as how Facebook can evolve and monetize its various properties for its developers will be some of the key points of this year's developer's conference.

Other announcements include expanded features in Messenger Platform to connect directly with businesses instead of calling them up by phone.
