The Apple Beat: Evolution of Apple Ultraportables

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

It looks like a MacBook Air but that Retina Display is certainly fit for Pro users (as is the price tag). The specs are a bit confounding as well. It comes with a generous minimum of 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, but the new Intel Core M processor sounds rather measly at 1.1GHz (which does Turbo Boost to 2.4GHz).

Apple’s latest MacBook is a revelation in ultraportable computing. It heralds radical new standards, pushes the cutting edge on design and engineering and continues a long tradition of Apple ultraportables.

Vector promises a 30-day battery life for its simple smartwatch

With everyone rightfully griping about the abysmal battery life of smartwatches, a relatively unknown watch brand is hoping to one up the giants like Apple and Google with their take on the smartwatch. Vector announced at Baselworld in Switzerland that they are working on a family of smartwatches that promise a 30-day battery life. Don’t expect it to have all the bells and whistles of the Android Wear devices and the Apple Watch. It’ll have no touchscreen and will be controlled by three physical buttons. It’ll have a monochrome display and stainless steel body and metal link, leather, or rubber strap. We’ll only know for sure what the watch can do and offer when it comes out in the summer.

Tiny crossfader wants to boost your iPad DJ skills

The team behind EDJing wants to help casual DJs slim down their kit with is new tiny crossfader. Called Mixfader, this little device hooks up to an app that will give you some sort of physical control and let you mix, spin, and scratch the digital vinyl of your choice. The makers promise that after five years of R&D with Mixfader, it should get rid of the latency that plagues other DJ apps. There’s a bit of a wait though to see if this lives up to the hype.

Connect more devices out of a single USB port with InfiniteUSB

Tired of having to cycle through your devices when connecting to the one available USB port on your notebook? A Kickstarter project wants to help ease your pain with the InfiniteUSB. It’s a USB charging cable with ends stacked like nesting dolls into the back of the connector from the USB cable in front of it. It’s basically daisy chains USB cables and you can stack as many USB devices into a single USB port. It’ll be available in microUSB, Lightning, and Female USB charging ends. A single cable will cost you around US$10 while early bird supplies last. Project has over a month to go and shipping will happen June 15.
