The Apple Beat: On the iPhone's 8th year anniversary

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

It was roughly around this time in 2007 that the world saw its first official glimpse of Apple's iPhone. As of June of 2014, there have been over 500 million iPhones sold. It's kind of fun to look back and see how the mobile world has changed since then.

The iPhone can really be credited for jumpstarting the modern smartphone age. While there were multi-functional smartphones before that that could access the Internet, make calls and take pictures, none of them really pushed the idea of multi-touch as well as powerful handheld apps.

BlackBerry’s Twitter account gets caught tweeting from an iPhone

Social media blunders happen to the best of us but famous people and big companies usually suffer from the consequences more. The Verge caught a little booboo from BlackBerry’s Twitter account. Apple becomes the second most popular camera brand on Flickr

A testament to the popularity of the iPhone (ok, and maybe the iPad, too), Apple has surpassed Nikon as the second most popular camera brand on Flickr. Why is this significant? Well Apple doesn't make standalone cameras (QuickTake and iSight are both discontinued) but its iPhone cameras are prolific and popular. Leading the pack is Canon with 13.4 per cent, Apple folloes with 9.6 per cent and Nikon has 9.3 per cent.
