Twitter will fill your timeline with people you don’t know

A few users have noticed it in the past few weeks that tweets from people they don’t know have started to crop up on their timeline. Now, it would seem to be an official policy that Twitter will be showing you tweets you haven’t really asked for. It would seem Twitter already updated its FAQ section to make it clear that you won’t just be getting tweets from people you follow. It is basically like the sponsored or promoted tweets you have been seeing on your timeline but without anyone being paid.

This is the section Quartz is pointing out about this policy: “Additionally, when we identify a Tweet, an account to follow, or other content that's popular or relevant, we may add it to your timeline. This means you will sometimes see Tweets from accounts you don't follow. We select each Tweet using a variety of signals, including how popular it is and how people in your network are interacting with it. Our goal is to make your home timeline even more relevant and interesting.

Steve Ballmer resigns from Microsoft's board to concentrate on L.A. Clippers

Steve Ballmer has resigned his post a board member of Microsoft in a letter to his successor Satya Nadella.

“The fall will be hectic between teaching a new class and the start of the N.B.A. season so my departure from the board is effective immediately," Ballmer's letter stated. The former CEO, who still owns the largest amount of Microsoft stock stepped down last February and left Nadella with a vote of confidence.

"I have confidence in our approach of mobile-first, cloud-first, and in our primary innovation emphasis on platforms and productivity and the building of capability in devices and services as core business drivers." It's going to be fun seeing Steve Ballmer courtside during Clipper games.

HTC One M8 for Windows Phone released in the U.S. exclusive to Verizon

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

HTC has just released an HTC One M8 that runs Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 operating system instead of Android’s current KitKat OS. While available only in the U.S. and only on Verizon, this strategy of offering identical hardware and functionality with a different OS seems brilliant. So why aren't other manufacturers doing it?

After all, most Windows Phones and Android devices are all but identical under the hood and run on similar ARM processors and chips. HTC”s move to replicate the HTC One’s outstanding build and feature set in the Windows Phone world, suddenly makes a lot of sense.

The HTC One M8 remains one of the most impressive Android flagship devices in the market right now. Even if it launched earlier than the Samsung, Sony and LG competitors, it still bests most of these devices in a number of areas. It is a great Android phone, now that Windows Phone variant has been released, it will be very interesting to see how other phone makers will respond (is creating a Windows Phone variant of an LG G3 or Galaxy S5 going to be a thing?) and more importantly we should see how customers react to suddenly having some premium handsets on Windows Phone that aren’t made by Nokia.
