Microsoft starts Windows Phone 8.1 support on June 24

Microsoft announced at its BUILD 2014 conference that Windows Phone 8.1 will be coming out over the summer and now the company says support for the operating system will start June 24. Its new announcement confirms that the public release for the new mobile OS will arrive sometime in June. Microsoft said support for Windows Phone 8.1 will be until July 11, 2017. This means you will be getting software updates for the OS until said date.

However, you must also remember that the release doesn’t mean you’ll be getting the update immediately. You will have to wait until the carriers and manufacturers send the update to supported devices.

New iOS rhythm game ‘Record Run’ lets you play along using your music library

Rock Band creator Harmonix has brought a new rhythm game to iOS for those who want to use their own tunes to play. Record Run is a straightforward game that will need you to swipe side to side and up and down to avoid obstacles but with the help of songs in your library. The game can get repetitive but you are given new goals to help you set a higher score. And at the beginning you won’t be able to play all your songs one after another. You will have limits to how many songs you can add but you can unlock more songs by accomplishing certain objectives. Or you can also pay for the ability to unlock songs.

If you’re an Apple user, you can download the game here. Android users just have to wait a bit. Harmonix plans to bring the game to your platform soon.

Netflix Canada officially raises prices for new subscribers

After previously announcing a price hike for new members in the US, Netflix is bringing the price increase to Canada but to new subscribers first. Those who will sign up for Netflix now will pay $8.99 instead of $7.99.  Current customers will not feel the effects of the price hike for at least two years. Netflix said in an email to existing subscribers: "As a thank you for being a member of Netflix already, we guarantee your plan and price (excluding tax) will not change for two years."

The company cites the raising costs of managing its large data flow over the internet infrastructure and having to release more funds to create and obtain rights for exclusive shows like Orange Is The New Black and House of Cards.
