Microsoft offers Office for free on iPhone and Android phones, Android tablet version to come

Aside from introducing Office for iPad, Microsoft has also introduced a free home version for the iPhone and Android smartphones. This means smartphone users on both platforms can view and edit content without the need of an Office 365 subscription.

As The Next Web pointed out, it looks like Microsoft wants to treat tablets as premium devices that would require its users to pay to edit their documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. And yes, and Android tablet version of Office Mobile is reportedly in the works. “In the future we will bring Office apps to the Windows Store and other popular platforms, including Android tablets,” a Microsoft spokesperson told TNW.

Microsoft Office apps shoot to the top of App Store after one day of availability

In just one day, Microsoft's Office apps have become the most downloaded applications on the Apple App Store with Microsoft Word leading the way at number one. Word is also rising up the top grossing ranks at tha App Store showing that the demand for bonafide Microsoft Office apps on a platform like the iPad has built up to a frenzy. Early reviews and insights on the apps are positive and I can't help but wonder what if Microsoft had made these available much earlier, like when the iPad first came out. Even if these were sold as individual apps, I think they would have made Microsoft a ton of money.
