Toronto Transit Commission delivers free WiFi to commuters in two stations

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) announced the official launch of its free WiFi service at Bloor-Yonge and St. George stations. TCONNECT offers subway patrons access and cellular connections on platforms and other public spaces within the two stations. 

These two initial locations are Toronto’s busiest subway stations and accommodate approximately 25 per cent of TTC subway riders each weekday.

Viber introduces feature to allow mobile and landline calls

Viber follows the cue of Microsoft Skype and lets you call other mobile numbers without Viber as well as landline numbers with Viber Out. The company claims the prices for this feature will be lower than Skype. You can access the feature and buy Viber Out credits by tapping on the “More” tab on your iOS, Android or desktop app. A Windows Phone version of this feature is said to be coming soon.

Microsoft Socl gets mobile apps

Microsoft’s search-based social network Socl has launched new applications for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 8 devices to extend the reach of the site. The app lets you create and share collages as well as memes and share these will other social networking sites.

Google Hangouts updates app to improve SMS capabilities

Google Hangouts improved the kinks of the SMS integration with a new update for Android devices. The app now has the ability to disable the ability that converts group messages into MMS by default. You can also import your current SMS messages into the app. There have also been some APN tweaks added for those with unlocked smartphones.
