The Apple Beat: Stage is set for next evolutionary phase for iPhone and iOS

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Any Apple launch event easily obscures the majority of technology launch events happening at the same time. Events focused on a new iPhone are easily the most anticipated and widely covered.

How crazy does it get? While watching the local news on CP24 this morning, the hosts were discussing the invitations sent by Apple to select media for the upcoming September 10 launch to be held in Cupertino. Flipboard makes appearance on BlackBerry OS 10

One of the best ways to peruse news and feeds on mobile devices is coming to BlackBerry 10. Flipboard has slowly become one of the best experiences for reading since it takes various feeds and manages to layout and flow text and images into a mobile friendly format. An Android port has appeared in BlackBerry World but only for OS version 10.2 OS which isn't out yet for most users. Still, great news that BlackBerry fans finally get this great app experience.

Vimeo wants to fund indie films to expand on-demand business

Vimeo wants to help out independent film producers at the same time broaden its Vimeo On Demand by giving filmmakers premiering their feature-length movies at the Toronto International Film Festival this week a $10,000 advance if they agree to distribute their films through the platform.

It’s not exactly enough to shoot most films but it is important to note that the 150 eligible movies showing at the festival have already been shot so the money can go to promotions. Vimeo On Demand offers the film creators a 90 percent cut of any sales and those who opt for the $10,000 advance agree to giving Vimeo a 30-day digital exclusive. This means they can go through traditional distribution channels after the 30-day period is over or once the initial $10,000 has been recouped. Filmmakers have to set a minimum download price of $4.99 on the platform.
