Google revamps Web version of Play Store

Google borrows the design of the Android version of the Play Store and carries it over to the Web. The new look makes it easier to navigate through the app store with bigger screenshots and icons as well as the easy to scroll through navigation panel on the left side.

‘Jobs’ movie trailer hits Instagram

If you thought 60 seconds is too long to watch a movie trailer, the creators behind Steve Jobs’ biopic Jobs are tapping into your short attention span by releasing a 15-second trailer on Instagram, a first on the photo- and video-sharing service.

This comes hot off the heels of Instagram allowing photo and video embedding for their Web version. What do you think of this new marketing ploy?

I've recently discovered a number of iOS apps that are so sublimely designed in terms of look, feel and function that they have given me renewed hope that we will be experiencing a renaissance in great app functionality.

Designing any smartphone app is hard, but taking stock of what everyone else has done before and creating a new and exciting way to push information to users is what makes great apps stick out. In the rush to be competitive, be first on the market, or get something shipped at whatever the cost, results in humdrum apps that lose their lustre right away.
