Apple adds to iOS 7 a Google Now-esque feature called ‘Today’

Apple has taken a lot of inspiration from other mobile operating systems so it comes as no surprise they have an answer to Google Now. Appearing under a tab called Today in the Notifications Center, this feature acts like a personal assistant as well. It can show you weather and traffic information and remind you of your schedule.

This feature is still in beta and obviously won’t match up with Google Now but it is a preview of what’s to come for iOS 7 users. If you’re an Apple user that wants to try the more established Google Now, it is part of the Google Search app.

Facebook rolls out searchable hashtags

It’s not exactly revolutionary but at least those hashtags you add to your updates are now going to make sense. Hashtags on Facebook are going to work the same as how they do on other social networks like Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr. You click on a hashtag, you get access to posts and comments about the topic.

Here’s what Facebook had to say about this feature: To bring these conversations more to the forefront, we will be rolling out a series of features that surface some of the interesting discussions people are having about public events, people, and topics. As a first step, we are beginning to roll out hashtags on Facebook.

Ward off unwanted calls with PrivacyStar

It has probably happened to you before. You’re in the middle of an important task and your concentration's disrupted by your ringing mobile phone. What makes it worse is it was the pesky telemarketer calling you for the nth time. You’re not facing this problem alone, though. There are over 30 million telemarketing calls and 20 million debt collector calls per day.

The solution? A new free app from PrivacyStar that identifies the caller when your phone rings and blocks the calls you don’t want to take. If you feel there is a need, you can even report callers that continue to harass you to the FTC.
