Apple finally launches the iPhone 12's MagSafe Battery Pack

Nine months after the release of the iPhone 12, Apple is finally ready to release the MagSafe Battery Pack. Before this, we've only had MagSafe charging pads and stands. But now, Apple users get an on-the-go option. It attaches magnetically to the back of your iPhone, and you can charge it ahead of time. It's compatible with the iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max.

According to Apple, you can use at least a 15W USB-C power adapter and Lightning cable to charge the battery pack and iPhone simultaneously. The charging status is viewable on the iPhone's lock screen. In typical Apple fashion, you need to buy the power adapter and cable separately. The MagSafe Battery Pack retails for CAD 119, and it's expected to start shipping on July 19.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra tipped to get a 200MP Olympus camera

As the rumour mill for the next Samsung flagship turns, expect to hear different leaks about the "Galaxy S22" series. The latest one from a Korean publication citing industry sources claims that the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a 5-lens, 200-megapixel camera sensor created in collaboration with Olympus. Samsung has reportedly agreed to the camera maker's terms after reaching out to work with the smartphone maker.

According to the same report, S Pen support will reportedly carry over to this model, too. The next question is whether it will be bundled into the phone. It will be a long wait to find out the truth about this device as we expect it to come out by early next year.

Google to drop support for Android Jelly Bean

Here's your signal to upgrade soon if you're still clinging to old Android phones running on Jelly Bean. The company will no longer support Android 4.1 to 4.3 Jelly Bean after August. The phones will still work, but you could lose access and support to apps over time as Google and its developers abandon this version.

Not many people will be affected by this change as less than 1% of Android users are still using handsets powered by Jelly Bean as of this month. But as GadgetMatch pointed out, it's good to not stick with using devices that feature too old versions of Android as developers tend to drop these in favour of working on newer features.
