Apple AirTag's new update brings privacy improvements, Android app coming later this year

Photo by Đức Trịnh on Unsplash

Apple has started rolling out a firmware update for the AirTag that adjusts the time it takes for AirTags to sound an alert after they've been separated from their owner. The AirTags will update automatically when they're within range of a connected iPhone. With this update, an AirTag will now play a sound after being separated from its owner at a random time within eight hours and 24 hours. When the AirTag launched, it was designed to play a sound after being separated for over three days.

The company has also announced that it is developing an Android app to alert users if an AirTag is potentially moving with them. It doesn't look like the app will be used to set up an AirTag, though. Apple wanted to address concerns raised about unwanted tracking instead. The app is expected to come out later this year.

Waze lets you use Boy George's voice for Pride Month

If you've been looking through the voices you can use for navigation on Waze, then you might notice that Boy George has appeared as an option on the app for Pride Month. Aside from having the music and fashion icon help you navigate through traffic, Waze said he would "impart words of wisdom, like reminding you that life is about learning to be yourself."

You can also get the full Boy George experience with a choice of four moods or two cars. Plus, Boy George curated a special Pride playlist that you can stream through the Waze Audio Player. Each track he picked was selected to "celebrate acceptance, freedom of expression, and love," and they were selected following his golden rule: "Listen to the music you love; passion always eclipses what's fashionable."

The Link Between COVID-19 and Diabetes, and What Patients Need to do

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought bad news for diabetics: they are 3 times as likely to develop severe complications from the virus, and up to three times as likely to die from it.

These statistics alone might have been easy to explain, except for the fact that 14.9% of non-diabetic patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 developed diabetes afterward. There is clearly a link between the two conditions, and researchers are working to better understand this phenomenon.

Of immediate concern, however, is how diabetes patients can minimize or avoid the deadly complications of COVID-19, and how they can manage their condition when they do get infected.

Huawei intros FreeBuds 4 to the UK

Huawei also brought up the FreeBuds 4 during its HarmonyOS 2 launch, and a couple of weeks since its launch in China, it'll be making its way to the UK.

The FreeBuds 4's design is reminiscent of last year's FreeBuds 3. It comes equipped with 14.3mm dynamic drivers, three microphones, active noise cancellation, and a low latency mode for gaming. It also has an IPX4 splash rating, Bluetooth 5.2 support that can handle two devices connected simultaneously, and 22 hours of playback.

The Huawei FreeBuds 4 comes in two options: wired charging and wireless charging for GBP 130 (around CAD 221) and GBP 150 (around CAD 255), respectively. The former is arriving on June 21, while the latter will come in mid-July.
