Canadian privacy authorities calls Clearview AI's facial recognition app illegal

Canada's Office of the Privacy Commissioner wants controversial facial recognition startup Clearview AI to delete Canadian faces from its database, saying it violates Canadian privacy laws by collecting its citizens' photos without their knowledge or consent. 

Clearview drew heavy criticism and lawsuits after the New York-based company claimed it collected over three billion photos of people's faces on the internet and boasted its connection to law enforcement. It also scraped images from sources like social media sites without their permission, which resulted in the company getting cease and desist letters from the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

"What Clearview does is mass surveillance, and it is illegal," Commissioner Daniel Therrien said at a news conference.

YouTube will no longer support 2012 Apple TV

If you still use the third-generation Apple TV released in 2012, you should know that YouTube will no longer natively support this set-top box. The app is dropping support for this Apple TV in early March, but if you use AirPlay, you can still stream YouTube from your iPhone or iPad. YouTube will continue to support the fourth-gen Apple TV HD and fifth-gen Apple TV 4K.

Instagram lets you restore recently deleted posts

Instagram is launching a new feature to help you gain access to content you deleted. The aptly-named Recently Deleted allows you to review and restore deleted content in the Instagram app. The social network also said it added protections to prevent hackers from compromising your account and deleting posts you've shared.

Now, Instagram will ask you to verify that you're the rightful account holder when permanently deleting or restoring content from the Recently Deleted folder.
