First look at the Huawei Ascend P6

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

We've seen a number of Huawei devices this year. Ranging from clearly entry level smartphones to an interesting challenger to the the supersized-handset market.

The Ascend P6 is an ultra-slim and premium smartphone that is impressively put together and shows just how formidable Huawei has become as a smartphone maker in a short span of time.

The Ascend P6 is made out of brushed aluminum with a stainless steel bezel which likely incorporates the antennas. It features a bright 4.7-inch display, a 1.5Ghz quad core processor, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.2.2 and a sizeable 2000mAh battery. It is clever enough to incorporate its own SIM card slot pin and while it comes with 8GB of onboard storage, it can easily be upgraded to 64GB via microSD card expansion.

Huawei’s current flagship smartphone is available in Canada at WIND – at 6.18 mm slim, it is the thinnest phone available in Canada right now and a sign of great things to come from Huawei.

HTC continues its roll out of smartphones in different segments. The mid-tier HTC Desire blends the familiar front aluminum fascia of the HTC One with the polycarbonate rear casing of last year's HTC One X and X+. With a 4.5-inch qHD display, 4G-LTE connectivity, a 1.4Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, the HTC Desire is available from Bell, Virgin Mobile, Fido, Rogers, Koodo and Videotron in Canada.

Native Google Play app heading to BlackBerry 10?

It's no secret that those on BlackBerry 10 have taken to sideloading Android apps onto their BlackBerry 10 devices to fill the app void. Sheesh, one of the first things I did when I started using my Z30 was sideload Instagram onto it! Well, we have some good news care of a few leaked images that turned up in CrackBerry forums earlier: images of Google's PlayStore running natively on a BlackBerry 10 device.

Say it ain't so? Could an influx of apps be coming to the little ecosystem that could? Highly unlikely. Word that came with the image above is that the next iteration of BB10, BB10.2, could come with the Google Play store as a native app.

Or this could be a clever sideload job to trick everyone. No comment from Google or BlackBerry, yet, but that doesn't mean they don't intend on commenting either.

Stay tuned...
