Windows 8.1 update is rolling out now

While the demise of Windows XP may be sad news for some people, there's happy news coming out of Redmond today as the much awaited Windows 8.1 update is finally rolling out and available to current Windows 8.1 users for free. Coming in the Mother of All Patch Tuesdays, the new update offers refinements to the current Windows 8.1 experience highlighted here. While Microsoft says it will take a few weeks to reach all users, I just went into Windows Update on my Surface Pro and the update was available along with a half-dozen others. Grab a cold beverage, some popcorn and get with the latest version of Windows now.

42,000 Mazda6's recalled due to spider-related issues

Mazda is recalling various model years Mazda6 vehicles due to a recurrence of spiders appearing in vent lines and their webs being a fire hazard. The recall affects Mazda6 sedans from 2010 and 2012, specifically those equipped with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

Mazda says there have been nine confirmed sightings of spiders in vent lines since the original recall a few years ago. It seems that covers were applied at the factory to keep the arachnids from entering, but it hasn't quite exterminated the problem. Hit jump for the full release.

First look at the Nokia X Android smartphone

The Nokia X is the Android powered smartphone designed for emerging markets and for the low-end of the smartphone spectrum. This device isn't slated for North America or Canada but we ordered one from overseas to get a better feel of what Nokia is doing in this specific segment. The Dual-SIM Nokia X is surprisingly sturdy and feels rock solid even if it does have lower-end specs. We've just unboxed our unit and are putting it through its paces to see what this device offers and will have a full review in the coming weeks. For now, enjoy the slideshow.
