Rogers to allow unlocking of smartphones after 90 days, cost is still $50

Rogers announced that starting in March, they will allow the unlocking of smartphones purchased under contract after 90 days. This is even if users do not complete their full term.  Here's the statement, "In March 2013, we’ll be changing our policy so that you no longer have to wait until you complete your full term commitment – you can unlock 90 days after activating your device on the Rogers network. We’re also making it even easier for you to have your phone unlocked by bringing it to any of our Rogers retail stores." Cost to unlock the phones is $50.00 plus taxes, same as before. Rogers would only unlock phones through their customer service line.

Facebook launches Developers Live

Facebook launched Developers Live, a new channel for developers to stay up to date on news, tutorials and speaking sessions.

With Developers Live, developers will have a central place to learn about the latest tools and get  access to  the product  managers and engineers who created them.  Our first live event will take place on February 19th and will feature Doug Purdy, Director of Developer Products.

Over time, Facebook has invested in upgrading the platform’s developer site [https://developers.facebook.com/], fixing bugs and improving resources; the Developers Live site is part of Facebook’s continued commitment to Operation Developer Love [https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/417/].

BlackBerry: Z10 Launch was best BlackBerry smartphone launch ever

BlackBerry just sent out a release offering the following statement, "In Canada, yesterday was the best day ever for the first day of a launch of a new BlackBerry smartphone. In fact, it was more than 50% better than any other launch day in our history in Canada,” said Thorsten Heins, President & CEO of BlackBerry. “In the UK, we have seen close to three times our best performance ever for the first week of sales for a BlackBerry smartphone.” No actual figures or numbers were released but this indicates a fresh start for the new BlackBerry 10 OS.

We're still waiting for factual sales and activation figures from BlackBerry and their carriers.
