Drake smashes Apple Music’s single-day streaming record, too

Canadian rapper Drake didn’t just break records on Spotify. It seems his done the same thing on Apple Music, too. His 22-song “playlist” called More Life was streamed 89.9 million times on Apple Music for the first 24 hours it was available. It broke the record on Apple’s streaming service, which was believed to have been held by Drake as well for his last album Views. Aside from that, it even set records on Beats 1 with the weekend’s episode of “OVO Sound Radio,” where Drake premiered this playlist, became the biggest Beats 1 show to date. It isn’t known how many listeners tuned in, though.

As 9to5Mac points out, this streaming record on Apple Music might prove important for Apple and the viability of its streaming service as it has been streamed some 28.6 million times more there than on Spotify for its first 24 hours of availability. It’s a big deal especially with the difference in number of subscribers the services have. Apple is supposedly “well past” 20 million subscribers while Spotify reached 50 million paying listeners recently.

Drake now holds streaming records on Spotify for new 'playlist'

As Mashable has pointed it out, Drake and Ed Sheeran have built their careers on being underdogs in their genres. And it seems they’re battling each other over who gets to rule Spotify streaming records. Coming out top at the moment is Toronto native Drake. He released a new “playlist” called More Life on the streaming service and broke two of Ed Sheeran’s streaming records on Spotify for his new album Divide, which just came out a few weeks ago.

Drake garnered best first day streams for an album with 61,302,082 streams over Sheeran’s 56,727,861 streams back on March 3^rd. Aside from that, he also gets most streams for an artist in one day with 76,355,041 over Sheeran’s 68,695,172 during the first full day his new album came out.

Drake's "Views" comes out today exclusively on Beats Music

Toronto native and hip hop sensation Drake took to Beats 1 late last night to talk extensively to DJ Zane Lowe about his anticipated album "Views from the 6," which the artist explained was a love letter of sorts to his cty and its people that he worked on during the Winter. "Views" is available exclusively on Apple Music for one week after which it will be available to competing streaming services. The album drops today which is also the first day of sales for his "Summer Sixteen," world tour.

Beats 1 invades Toronto in time for the release of Drake's "Views from the 6"

Canadian artist Drake is set to release his latest album Views from the 6, which drops on April 29 exclusively on Apple Music. To celebrate the release an OVO Sound Radio exclusive interview with Drake out of Toronto is  airing at 10pm ET 4/28 on Beats 1. Drake is expected to play tracks from the new album.

Beats 1 global DJ Zane Lowe was also in Toronto broadcasting his Beats 1 live show which featured call in interviews from Canadian artists like Majid Jordan, Jahkoy, Badbadnotgood, Charlotte Day Wilson & PUP.
