Facebook Messenger tries out data saving option

For users who need to monitor data consumption, using data saver options of apps like Google Chrome are useful. Facebook thinks it’s useful enough to try out on its own Messenger app. What the data saver option does is it cuts back the amount of data you use by letting you only look at pictures and videos on a click-to-download basis. This feature gets enabled when you’re on cellular data. If you are on Wi-Fi, the app will continue to download the photos and videos as they come to you. Messenger will also show you how much data you’ve saved. However, the feature isn’t available to everyone yet. But if you’re on Facebook Messenger’s beta program on Android you might be able to toggle this option.

Facebook Messenger is testing out its own take on Snapchat’s Stories

Facebook-owned Instagram blatantly copied Snapchat’s Stories feature a few months back, the copying continues as Facebook is testing out a Snapchat Stories-like feature in its own Messenger app. Testing it out in Poland, Facebook names it “Messenger Day.” Just like the Stories on Instagram and Snapchat, it lets users add stickers and scribbles on photos and videos that’ll disappear 24 hours after they’re posted. There is no word yet if Facebook plans to release this to its international users.

Facebook for iOS finally lets you switch between accounts

Managing multiple Facebook accounts is now easier for iOS users, too. Facebook has enabled account switching within Facebook’s family of apps (FB, Messenger, and Instagram, to be specific). So, if you manage multiple accounts, such as those for your business, you can just add the extra account you handle. You’ll be able to see the option under Profile > Switch Account > plus sign to add the new account.

Play with Facebook Messenger’s ‘hidden’ soccer game

Basketball isn’t your thing? Well, maybe you’re more a soccer fan. Facebook is capitalizing on that and adding another game into Messenger. Instead of flicking a basketball to shoot in a hoop, this time you try to keep a soccer ball up. Think of the mechanics of Flappy Bird. It’s not easy as it looks either. If you want to give it a try, just like the basketball game, send a friend a soccer ball and get the ball rolling (pun intended).
