You can soon lip sync to popular tunes on Facebook

Facebook hopes to lure teens back to its service with one of the new features it’s testing. Called Lip Sync Live, it works within Facebook Live and will let you lip sync along to popular songs from both independent and major labels like Universal, Warner, and Sony. There are already hundreds of songs available including songs like Havana by Camila Cabello, God’s Plan by Drake, and even Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N’ Roses. The song’s title and the artist will be highlighted in the clip but you can also write your own description. Lip Sync Live also works with Facebook’s camera effects so you can add the filters, backgrounds, or masks you want to. This feature is currently being tested in select markets but Facebook is working on releasing this worldwide.

One other new music-related feature Facebook will be introducing is the ability to upload videos with music playing in the background or as background music to a video. The caveat is that these should be music from the labels Facebook has partnered with. Facebook will soon let you add music to Facebook Stories, too.

WhatsApp adds support for in-line Instagram and Facebook videos on iOS

When you share YouTube videos on WhatsApp, your recipient will be able to watch the video right from the conversation thread. The same thing can be done now for Instagram and Facebook videos, at least for iOS users. WhatsApp brings these features to the 2.18.51 update of the app. It also brings more feature to group chats, including the ability to add or revoke administrator privileges of other users in the chat as well as the ability for active admins to edit the description, icon, and subject of an ongoing chat. The update is currently rolling out to users so you may or may not see it immediately. No word yet when these features will be coming to Android.

Facebook hopes you wouldn’t notice fake news by shrinking links to them

Facebook is continuing its battle against fake news and its latest attempt is lessening the “visual prominence” of these false stories on your timeline. At the same time, the social network will be giving an accurate story more attention with larger images and bolder text. How is the company able to weed out the fake news? Facebook is making use of machine learning to help with its fact checking. It’ll scan new articles for any false claims and prioritizes the suspicious ones for the company’s human reviewers to handle. This move will not only help them save time but also help them catch the fake news easily. While we don’t know the efficacy of this new approach, it does, as Engadget points out, shows that it’s trying to balance being able to fight fake news and avoid more controversy but at the same time not block content unless they really need to.
