Google speeds up and redesigns Gmail on iOS

Google revamps the Gmail app for iOS and gives it a new look, the “undo send option,” and faster search capabilities. Two years might be a bit too long of a wait but at least the five second “undo send” feature is now in the iOS app. But the biggest but probably something that will go unnoticed is the quicker search capability of the email app. According to AppleInsider tests, a multi-term search of a 55,000 email archive returned results almost instantly instead of around 11 seconds that takes to complete said search. Scrolling is also faster as well as receiving notification. Google has also added spelling suggestions into the app and lets users swipe on an email to archive or delete the message.

Gmail boosts email security with new warning system

Gmail is making it very clear for its users when you’ve been sent a sketchy link. If you use Gmail on the web or on Android. You’ll see a question mark in place of the sender’s profile photo if the message wasn’t authenticated by either the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) or DKIM). Those who check Gmail on the web will see a familiar warning message similar to Google’s Safe Browsing protection tool that’ll let you know you might be clicking a link that has malware or uses phishing to get your personal information. Google is quick to emphasize that of course not all affected emails could be dangerous. But it is definitely better to be on high alert in situations like this.

Gmail wants you to drop the mic on overbearing email threads

It's almost that time of the year and one of those "we wish these were actually features" introduced to our favorite services. This year's April Fool's prank by the Gmail team is called the Mic Drop feature. It's basically a tool you want to use when you want to eject yourself from a long-winded email thread. To use it, simply press the Send + Mic Drop button and an accompanying GIF will show that you are done with this conversation and will not have anymore of it. You might not be speaking with these people in the future but at least your inbox is quieter for it.

Gmail app gets fix for Hotmail sync issues, still working on Nexus trouble

A new version of Gmail is fixing issues you may have with trying to manage your old Hotmail account on Google’s email app. Version 5.10 of the app takes care of this bug as well as other bugs you might be experiencing with the email client. It wasn’t specified if there were also issues with Outlook.com addresses, which replaced Hotmail, but it’s worth a try to update.

Unfortunately, the Nexus users who are having trouble with Gmail accounts don’t get a fix just yet. Google said these syncing issues are “actively being worked on.” Let’s hope they remedy that quickly. It’s a bit strange that Android users are having issues with a phone sold by Google that runs stock Android.
