Google has released an update for both the latest Pixel 6 devices and the older Pixels bringing many new features to these phones. The Pixel 6 Pro gets Ultra-wideband (UWB) capability, making it easier to share photos and files via the Nearby Share function. The Pixel 6 series also gets the digital car key function, allowing you to unlock and start select BMW models.

Quick Tap to Snap is coming to the Pixel 4a 5G and newer devices. The feature, which was previously only available on the Pixel 6, lets you access Snapchat directly from your lock screen by double-tapping the back of the phone.

Pixel 6 might not charge with just any old cable

The Google Pixel 6 doesn't come with a USB-C adapter in the box. You get a USB-C-to-USB-C cable but not the box, and that might cause some charging issues. Reports claim that some Pixel 6 owners have charging troubles with incompatible USB-C cords. A user posted in a Google forum back in October saying that when they used an old charging cable that "Nothing happens." The user wrote, "No charge, no warning, no nothing. It's like it's not connected."

A Google Platinum Product Expert instructed the user to buy a USB-C cable compatible with the Pixel 6's fast-charging USB Power Delivery specification. The company suggests using a USB-C cable with a USB 2.0 power adapter at minimum instead of the USB-A one. Because the latter might charge your phone slowly or not at all. This might defeat the original intention of being more eco-friendly, but it is what it is. If you're wondering why you're running into a charging problem, this clarifies things a bit.

Google has addressed one of the Pixel 6's more troublesome bugs. The company has rolled out a patch that fixes a flaw in the Google app that randomly auto-dials those in your contacts. The issue seemed to stem from a flawed Google Assistant hotword detection. Thankfully, you don't have to do any temporary fixes now that Google is rolling out this patch.

Google unveils Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro

There isn't much of a surprise design-wise with the Pixel 6 series. We've seen it months before, with Google teasing the devices themselves. But now, we have a better look at the phones, and we know what they can do. Possibly the most important thing is we now know how much they cost.

Google Pixel 6's starting price is $799, while the Pixel 6 Pro starts at $1,179. They will be released in Canada beginning October 28. Both phones run on Google's new Tensor chip, which it claims is comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in terms of performance. That processor is paired with 8GB of RAM on the Pixel 6 and 12GB on the 6 Pro.
