IKEA launches a smart air quality sensor for your homes

Photo: IKEA

If you want to check if your cleaning or cooking habits have been making you sick, IKEA made a new smart indoor air quality sensor. The Vindstyrka gauges particulate matter levels (smaller than 2.5 micrometres), humidity, temperature, and the load of gaseous pollutants.

You can use it on its own or connect it with IKEA's Dirigera smart home hub. You can check air quality through the app and have the monitor control other devices. IKEA plans to release the Vindstyrka in all its markets starting in April. But we don't have pricing for now.

Sonos, Ikea launched a new floor lamp speaker

Source: Ikea

Sonos and Ikea have a new addition to their collaborative Symfonisk product lineup. This time, it's a new floor-standing lamp speaker that will come to Ikea stores and website starting January for US$260 (around CA$354). The design resembles the second-generation Symfonisk lamp speaker but with longer legs that extend down to a circular base. This new speaker lamp comes with a bamboo lampshade, but you can buy replacement designs using different textures and materials.

Ikea will release its Swedish House Mafia-collaborated record player in October

Ikea partnered with the music supergroup Swedish House Mafia to create a record player. And we can expect that to drop sometime in October. The all-black device will retail for US$159.99. We don't know much about its technical specs. What we know is it's USB-C-powered, works with an Eneby Bluetooth speaker (through a wired connection, though), and comes with a replaceable needle and cartridge.

The player is part of Ikea's Obegränsad (the Swedish word for "unlimited") collection, so it matches an armchair, desk, LED work lamp, record stand, laptop stand, shelving units, and more. It was first announced in June, and now we're getting a clearer timeline of when it's coming out.

IKEA has a portable wireless charger

Ever thought you'd want to get your hands on a portable wireless charger? IKEA seems to have a new wireless charger that offers just that. The Nordmärke Qi charger was spotted online by some Reddit users. In Germany, a reader of media outlet mobiFlip shared details on the device after purchasing it in Cologne.

The charger retails for €20 (around CA$29 converted), and it comes with a 6,500mAh battery. As with typical wireless chargers, the Nordmärke Qi charger only charges at a very slow 5W. It also doesn't come with a power adapter or USB cable. But its internal batteries are user-replaceable. It might not be as practical as the Sjömärke wireless charging pad you can hide under your wooden desk, but it's here, whether you need it or not. It isn't available online yet, so we aren't sure if it'll make its way to other markets.
