Instagram finally allows Live creators to appoint moderators

It seems pretty shocking that we're only now getting moderator support in Instagram's Live function. The social media site announced that its Live creators can now assign moderators for their streams. These moderators can report comments, remove viewers from the Live, or turn off comments for a specific viewer.

If you live stream on Instagram, you can assign a moderator by tapping on the three dots in the comment bar during a Live. You can then choose a moderator from a list of suggested accounts or use the search bar to look for a specific account.

Instagram wants you to spend more time on the app, increases minimum time for Daily Limit notifications

Instagram has quietly updated the lowest time limit for its Daily Limit feature. From 10 minutes, the minimum time is now set at 30 minutes. Daily Limit notifications send reminders that you've spent too much time on the app. 

The increase seems to come when parent company Meta reported slowing growth. And that isn't great for its platform. So, it looks like a wise decision for the company to do it for its bottom line. But if you've been trying to curb your Instagram use, you might have to resort to other apps or services that can cut you off from it.

Instagram adds option to send private Story likes

Instagram wants to help you clear out your DMs while still making sure you get the love from your followers/loved ones. The company has begun rolling out the option to send a private like on someone's Story post. Before this new feature was introduced, you could only react to Stories by either sending the creator a direct message or an emoji reaction. Either option would show up on their inbox, which can fill the inboxes of creators.

This new like option is a heart icon between the Send Message pill and airplane icon. When you send someone a Story like, the creator will see this in their viewer sheet. There will be a heart icon there for those who liked the Story. As with seeing who has viewed Stories, the Story likes will remain private to those who posted the Story.

Instagram starts rolling out option to prevent photo embedding

Instagram has begun rolling out the option for its users to prevent others from embedding their posts. The change comes after repeated requests from the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and the National Press Photographer's Association (NPPA) to remedy this issue. 

ASMP General Counsel Thomas Maddrey sent a letter (signed by six other organizations) to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. They were informed of what the ASMP called "the rampant problem" of third parties using the embedding feature to bypass copyright protections. Now, Instagram acceded to the request, giving its users the option to let others embed their works. It's first rolling out in the US but will get global support in 2022.
