Google experiment surfaces Instagram, TikTok videos in Search

Source: type_SEO / Twitter

Google isn't new to indexing videos on its Search platform. But the focus was mostly on desktop-oriented video sites like its own YouTube. Now, the search giant is shifting the focus to the mobile, social media space. Google is experimenting with a new search feature that highlights Instagram and TikTok in a "Short Videos" carousel. It only works for specific terms and shows easy-to-tap thumbnails for relevant videos.

The test is still in its pilot stage, and it works on either your browser or the Google Search app on Android and iOS. Google didn't say if or when it will introduce the carousel to more searches and users. It's a sensible move from the company because if you can find the video you're looking for right from the browser, you're more likely to stay on Google's pages and consequently generate ad money. It also helps save time because it makes it easier to surface videos you might miss on those platforms.

Facebook Messenger, Instagram get animated BTS characters

Source: Big Hit Entertainment

If you're part of the BTS Army (what the boyband's fans call themselves), you're familiar with TinyTAN animated characters inspired by the artists. You'll be happy to hear that Facebook Messenger and Instagram's direct messaging feature will offer a "unique chat experience" featuring BTS's cartoon counterparts. You will be able to apply a TinyTAN chat theme and use immersive 360 AR backgrounds, including a bedroom and cafe where you can find all seven characters. The rooms can be set up while on a video call with someone.

There will also be TinyTAN stickers available, with each member getting two stickers and two group stickers. All of which will be free to download and use. This social media integration comes as the seven-member K-Pop group will debut its album BE on Friday.

Instagram is playing catchup with TikTok with the new features coming to Reels. This TikTok-like experience within Instagram will now let you save audio so you can use it to create what you want. Reels also now has an audio browser that gives you access to personalized recommendations and trending songs. It's also now possible to share audio pages in DMs. All these features are already available on TikTok. But if you're more of an Instagram user, you might appreciate these showing up on the Facebook-owned app.
