Skype adds Split View support for iOS app

Skype is taking advantage of some of the new iOS features with its latest update. iPad users, at least those who use last year’s iPad Air 2 and those getting the iPad Mini 4 and iPad Pro, can use the Split View feature with the Skype app. You can have the app run side-by-side with another app, making it easier to copy and paste content to a chat you’re having. It can also use Slide Over feature, which is rather similar to Split View but it has one app occupying larger screen real estate on the left and another takes up smaller space on the screen.

iPhone users won’t be able to take advantage of these features. But you can now reply to Skype notifications right from the lock screen. You can start a Skype chat from the Spotlight screen and even make calls from there by looking up a contact.

Apple deals with iOS issues with latest 9.0.2 update

With iOS 9 in its early stages, it’s inevitable that Apple is working out the kinks of the latest mobile operating system update. With the iOS 9.0.2 version, Apple sets out to squash a number of bugs. Some of the fixes introduced are for iMessage activation issues, screen rotation issues, interrupted iCloud backups, Podcast app improvement, and problems with cellular data settings. The latest update can be downloaded from the General -> Software Update portion in your main settings. Make sure to plug your device into a power source and connect to Wi-Fi when you update.

The upcoming 9.1 update is said to bring new emojis into iOS, including taco and burrito characters, if those are of interest to you.

Pixelmator integrates iOS 9 features in update

Pixelmator’s latest update readies it for the new iOS 9 features. The photo editing app now supports multitasking on the iPad by taking advantage of the Slide Over and Split View modes. It’ll only work on an iPad Air 2, Mini 4, and iPad Pro, at the moment though. The app also now has support for 8K-resolution images. It’s possible for you to copy these images to the iOS clipboard, too. You can now also open files from anywhere and save these in the same location with “Open in Place” or you can open an image from Photos and overwrite those files afterwards.
