Relive your childhood nightmares on VR with ‘Goosebumps’ app

If you were a ‘90s kid or have a child who lived in the ‘90s, it’s most certain they carried around at least one of R.L. Stine’s popular Goosebumps books. The nostalgia got relived a bit recently when the series became a movie starring Jack Black. If you want to make that experience a bit more immersive and most likely surprising, try out the new Goosebumps VR app available for both Android and iOS.

The app has you joining Black a.k.a. R.L. Stine in the film as you try to escape a giant praying mantis. Yes, it might not be too scary for you now but if you’re a kid, this might be the thing to scare them out of their wits. It’ll work with compatible smartphones and virtual reality viewing devices like Google Cardboard and Merge VR Goggles. If you don’t have a VR headset on you, you can also use the “360-degree video mode,” which lets you experience the chase from your phone only.

Apple hopes to empower musicians with new iOS music apps

Apple has released updated version of GarageBand (2.1) as well as a new Music Notes app that can turn any iPad or iPhone into a mobile recording tool whenever inspiration strikes.

The major update to GarageBand for iOS introduces multiple new features, including Live Loops  to make music like a DJ using only their iPhone or iPad. Garageband also includes the new Drummer feature with nine EDM and acoustic virtual session drummers that provide their own signature sound, as well as an expanded selection of amps for bass players.

A completely new Music Memos app is inspired by Voice Memos and takes the functionality even further by adding musician-friendly features designed specifically for songwriting and developing musical ideas. Artists can record any musical instrument through the iPhone’s built-in microphone in a high-quality, uncompressed format, then name, tag and rate it to start building a library of ideas.

Music Memos is available for free on the App Store and is compatible with iPhone 4s and later, and iPad 2 and later. GarageBand 2.1 for iOS is bundled free with new iOS devices 32GB and larger, is available as a free upgrade for existing users with compatible iOS 9 devices or later, and is available to everyone else for $6.99 via the App Store.
