Spotify now supports iPhone X

The iPhone X screen with and without the letterboxing

Might be a bit late when compared to other popular apps but better late than never we say. The iOS version of Spotify now supports the iPhone X’s 5.8-inch OLED display. This means you get to see more of things like track lists and search results on the screen as well as more artwork when you browse through albums and playlists. The 1,125 x 2,436 resolution display of the iPhone X allows for 20 percent more vertical space for content. Heavy users of the music streaming app might appreciate the update.

Spotify and Netflix help you find your ‘Stranger Things’ music match

Eleven's mix is an eclectic mix of Lorde, Patti Smith, Madonna, The Runaways, and so much more.

Music is as much a big part of a good show or movie as every other component of it. And so, this new marketing campaign between Netflix and Spotify helps us embody what’s going on in Hawkins, Indiana a.k.a. the setting for Stranger Things 2. The gang is back and this time we get to learn a bit about their musical influences through character playlists of 13 of the leads, including Mike, Hopper, Jonathan, Eleven, Dustin, Joyce, Nancy, and even the Demogorgon itself. You can discover your music match through spotify-strangerthings.com. If you share your playlist on social media, watch your Spotify screen rotate and bring you to The Upside Down, at least within the app.

Paid music streaming services to have bigger impact on Billboard charts in 2018

With paid streaming services changing the music landscape, it’s not surprising to us that Billboard is changing its ranking system to reflect this new reality. The streams from paid subscription services like Amazon Music and Apple Music as well as those hybrid paid/ad-supported services like Spotify and SoundCloud will have a bigger influence on Billboard’s charts in 2018.

According to a post on Billboard’s site, “Beginning in 2018, plays occurring on paid subscription-based services (such as Amazon Music and Apple Music) or on the paid subscription tiers of hybrid paid/ad-supported platforms (such as SoundCloud and Spotify) will be given more weight in chart calculations than those plays on pure ad-supported services (such as YouTube) or on the non-paid tiers of hybrid paid/ad-supported services.”
