Twitter looks to improve your videos with latest acquisition

Facebook isn’t the only one investing in livestreaming and artificial intelligence. Twitter has just acquired Magic Pony, a small London-based company that specializes in using machine learning to process visuals, for an unofficial worth of about US$150 million. The acquisition was for improving the social network’s strengths when it comes live and pre-recorded videos. According to Twitter chief Jack Dorsey, Magic Pony can help with things like sharpening blurry video elements without using up more of your bandwidth. You’ll probably see more of Magic Pony’s efforts when you watch a Periscope stream, trailer, or other videos on both Periscope and the Twitter app.

Twitter experiments with putting Moments in main timeline

Graphic courtesy of The Next Web

Hoping to get more eyeballs on its Moments feature, Twitter is testing out putting a few of these “moments” on your timeline. Some users who have access to Moments have spotted this feature in their timeline as a carousel with five trending topics on it. If one of the topics interests you, you can tap on that and then the app will bring you to Moments. Of course, since they’re testing it out with a number of users, we can’t say you’ll be seeing the feature. But if Twitter deems it a success, they might bring it on as an official feature soon. Moments is designed by Twitter to help you see what latest stories are unfolding in your area and around the world.

Twitter redesigns Android app

Twitter is trying to align with the “best of Android” with its latest refresh of its app. And by aligning, they mean following the Material Design look. One of the new things the app has includes being able to swipe on the top bar to move between Home timeline, Notifications, and Direct Messages more easily. If you use Google’s native apps, Twitter’s new navigation menu will remind you of that. You can access that by swiping the screen from the left to see things like your profile, Highlights, lists, settings, and the Connect tab. Composing a tweet is much easier now as there’s a floating action button for it. The update is rolling out to all users globally so watch out for the update.

Latest Twitter update adds 3D Touch Peek and Pop feature

In case you didn’t notice the latest minor update from Twitter introduces a new 3D Touch feature. The app now gets 3D Touch Peek and Pop for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. The new feature, of course, lets you “peek” at things like URLs, images, videos, and profiles. Other than that, Twitter really didn’t have much to say about this update. Instead they describe version 6.54 as “A few minor updates that you didn’t even know you needed.” Okay then.
