WhatsApp preps chat transfer tool from Android to iOS

Source: WABetaInfo

WhatsApp already lets some Samsung and Google Pixel users migrate their chat histories from iOS to their devices. But now, the company is reportedly working on an option to import your Android chat history to iOS. WABetaInfo spotted the feature in the latest WhatsApp beta version 22.274 for iOS, which the publication pointed out corroborates a discovery made in the 2.21.20.11 Android beta version. It'll reportedly use the Move to iOS app to transfer the chats.

Based on the screenshots from WABetaInfo, it looks like you'll need to allow the app to start the transfer process. And you'll need to keep your phone unlocked with the app open to begin the transfer. It isn't clear when WhatsApp plans to roll this option out. But if it's testing it out, we might see it sooner than later.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a Communities feature

New information revealed that WhatsApp might be working on introducing a Communities feature for its app. XDA Developers first spotted it last month, and now WABetaInfo has new data to corroborate that rumour.

It looks like the feature gives group admins more power over groups, like creating groups within groups. A function that is similar to how channels work within an Umbrella Discord community.

WhatsApp's iOS-to-Android history transfer tool comes to Pixel devices

WhatsApp's cross-platform chat history transfer tool from iOS to Android first debuted on Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 10 and above. But now, it's coming to other Android devices. Unlike Samsung's implementation, it's only limited to Android 12 phones, which means it's only accessible to the Pixel phones for now. But Google says it'll come to new smartphones launching with the latest version of the mobile operating system.

Similar to the setup with Samsung, you'll need a Lightning-to-USB-C cable to connect your two devices. It also involves a QR code you need to scan when you first set up your new Pixel/Android phone.

WhatsApp tipped to add voice message transcription to iOS app

This is the notification WhatsApp will send when you use voice message transcription for the first time (Source: WABetaInfo)

WhatsApp is giving users on iOS an option to get transcripts of voice messages they receive. According to WABetaInfothe company is working on a new voice message transcription feature done entirely on your device, meaning Facebook and WhatsApp won't get access to these messages. It's an optional feature that can also help Apple improve its speech recognition tech.

Those who opt-in to use the feature will see a new Transcript section where you can jump to a specific timestamp. WABetaInfo reports that when a message is transcripted for the first time, the transcript will be saved locally in the WhatsApp database, so there won't be a need to transcript it again for later. The feature is still under development, so public beta testers can't access it for now.
