Epic Games Store to come to iOS, Android

Epic Games is looking to capture the mobile gaming audience with plans to bring the Epic Games Store to Android and iOS. In an interview during GameSpot's Play For All, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney talked about this plan to bring its app store to mobile.

"We'd like to bring the [Epic Games] Store to iOS in the future, and we will bring it to Android," Sweeney said. "We think it's a good way to help the industry [move] forward and it's another way where Epic as a game developer had built up this audience around Fortnite and learned how to operate a distribution platform on PC and Android. Now, as we've done with many things from the Unreal Engine to the Epic Online services, we open it up to all other developers to use with their games and are trying to serve the industry and provide a really interesting alternative to the ecosystem."

Telus to build office and innovation centre in downtown Victoria

Telus will be opening its regional headquarters in downtown Victoria, B.C. The national carrier plans to build a commercial office and innovation centre on the city-owned land at 749‑767 Douglas Street, on the corner of Douglas and Humboldt Streets. Telus is paying $8.1 million to purchase the property, along with an additional $1.1 million purchase price adjustment depending on the final proposal submitted and approved as part of the rezoning process.

The centre will house approximately 250 employees, and it'll serve as an innovation hub to showcase Telus' advanced communications and information technology. Victoria-based Aryze Developments will serve as Telus' community development partner. The team will make sure the project aligns with the shared goals of the community, city, and the company.

Zoom clarifies statements on why free users won't get end-to-end encrypted video calls

A few days ago, we heard from Zoom's security consultant Alex Stamos that the company plans to offer end-to-end encryption to its paying users. The company's CEO Eric Yuan confirmed this plan a few days later, but the way he worded the confirmation made it seem like it was to allow law enforcement to intercept video calls. A Twitter user then chastised him for using language that suggests he's "kowtowing to the police."

In the company's latest financial results announcement, Yuan said, "Free users, for sure, we don't want to give that [end-to-end encryption]. Because we also want to work it together with FBI and local law enforcement, in case some people use Zoom for bad purpose."

'Motorola Razr 2' tipped to get a bigger screen

The next-generation Motorola Razr is expected to arrive in September. It's unofficially called the Razr 2, but we don't know much else about it. Display Supply Chain Consultants' (DSCC) CEO Ross Young claims the second-gen Motorola Razr will feature slightly bigger displays. The primary 6.7-inch screen will reportedly be 0.5-inch larger than the existing Razr. And the smaller secondary outer screen will also be larger diagonally, but he didn't say by how much. The existing Razr has a 2.7-inch secondary display.

Other rumoured specs of the Motorola Razr 2 include 5G support courtesy of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, Android 10, and a 48-megapixel primary camera + 20-megapixel selfie camera combo.
