Samsung Galaxy S10's stock camera app gets Instagram mode

It's been a common gripe that Instagram users on Android don't get a good experience on the app as Apple users do. Samsung and Instagram are hoping to change that for their users. The stock camera app on the Galaxy S10 will get a new Instagram mode. It's as accessible as the other modes you can see in the stock app. It'll let you shoot and upload directly to your Instagram stories. You can add stickers, use Instagram's editing tools, add text, hashtag, and more. Samsung claims it's the “best Instagram experience on a smartphone.”

Aside from that, Samsung is also sharing its camera tech via an open SDK for the camera app, allowing developers to use these new features in their own apps. Samsung announced partnerships with Snapchat, Snow, and Lime, promising its users can take as good photos in these apps as they would in the native camera app.

Samsung takes the wraps off the Galaxy Fold

At Samsung's Unpacked event, the company started it off with a bang by sharing more details about its foldable device. Officially called the Galaxy Fold, this smartphone/tablet comes with a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display with a 1,536 x 2,152 resolution and a smaller 4.6-inch display with an 840 x 1,960 resolution when folded. It uses a sturdy hinge system with multiple interlocking gears to make sure it doesn't wear out that easily. And you'd definitely want to make sure you get the most out of this device. It has a starting price of US$1,980 (around CA$2,600).

The Galaxy Fold runs on a 7nm processor, 12GB of RAM, 512GB Universal Flash Storage 3.0, and two batteries that total to 4,380mAh. This device allows for better multi-tasking. In tablet mode, it can run three apps at once. So, you can do things like watch YouTube videos, message someone on WhatsApp, and browse the web all at once.

Material Design refresh for Gmail on Android gets wider release

We reported last month that the Material Design refresh, which first appeared for Gmail on the desktop, is making its way to the mobile apps. It offers a cleaner interface for the email client and ties it in with the overall design theme Google is applying to all of its products. Now, for Android users, it seems the rollout is more widespread. As 9to5Google reports, version 9.1.13 should be rolling out to more users. If you don't have auto update on, you should head to Gmail's Play Store page to see if the update is available for you.

Opera for Android introduces ad blocking toggle

The latest update for the Opera browser on Android will make it easier for users to toggle ad blocking on a per-site basis. Opera 50 for Android will come with a slider that you can flick on or off, so you don't have to think about things like whitelisting sites and the like. Aside from offering this feature, this update also brings picture-in-picture video support.
