Google Assistant can now control Philips Hue scenes

Before you ask, yes, Google Assistant does support Philips Hue lights. But it didn’t have the ability to control preset scenes like with the Amazon Alexa or Hue apps—until today, that is. This means, you can now ask Assistant to adjust the lights based on the scenes you’ve set up in the Hue app. However, you might need to remove and re-add your Hue lights to Assistant or sync them to get this to work.

‘Jane The Virgin’ star Gina Rodriguez to play Carmen Sandiego for Netflix live-action movie

If you grew up in the ‘90s, the name Carmen Sandiego will be a familiar name to you. And since everyone seems to want to bank on nostalgia these days, it comes as no surprise that there will be a live-action movie based on the character. It’s just been announced that Netflix is tapping Jane the Virgin and Annihilation star Gina Rodriguez to play the titular role. Rodriguez is already slated to voice Carmen in a reboot of the popular animated series.

The actress is listed as a co-producer of the project under her I Can and I Will production company. The movie will be a standalone film about the red-hatted traveler and doesn’t have a writer or director attached to it just yet.

Netflix can’t compete at Cannes Film Festival

Netflix won’t be eligible to compete for the Palme d’Or this year, as announced by Cannes head Theirry Fremaux. The streaming service was able to enter Bong Joon-ho’s Okja and Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories last year, but that was met by widespread protest from French filmmakers. Fremaux claims they aren’t allowing Netflix to compete this year because it refuses to release its movies in theaters and instead on its service or they opt to do day-and-date release so the film can be seen both online and offline. In order for films to be eligible to compete, Cannes needs to have French theatrical releases. However, Netflix can still show their films at Cannes. These just won’t be eligible for the Palme d’Or.
