Paul Bettany joins Han Solo movie to replace Michael K. Williams

After The Wire actor Michael K. Williams had to drop out of the Han Solo spinoff movie because of scheduling conflict, it looks like the role itself isn’t being cut but is instead being recast. A recent tweet from the film’s director Ron Howard suggests Paul Bettany might be taking over the role (it was later confirmed by the director in a follow-up tweet). Although, we know it’s not the exact same role. According to SlashFilm, while Bettany will play a character Williams was supposed to play, the character will now be human instead of a motion-capture alien. A Deadline story also claims it might be an entirely new character but will serve the same function as Williams’s character. At the moment we can only speculate what the character will be like. Howard and Bettany have previously worked together on A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code.

With the movie going through reshoots now after the original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller got fired, we’re hoping there isn’t any more controversy surrounding this rather beleaguered production. This might also not be the last time we see Williams in a Lucasfilm production. He expressed no bitterness over the changes and won’t say that this might be the final time we’d see him (or not see him, in this case). The untitled film is set to hit theatres in May 2018.

Huawei set to unveil Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro on October 16th in Munich

Huawei just unveiled its new Kirin 970 processor at IFA 2017 in Berlin, boasting of the processors artificial intelligence capabilities. And soon we’ll be seeing that in two new Huawei flagships coming out next month: the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. According to Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, the two devices will be the Chinese company’s first full display mobile phones. This means we might see a similar screen-to-body ratio as what we’ve been seeing lately in a lot of flagship devices. As expected, we’re being told it’s getting a dual camera setup (evidenced by an official tweet from Huawei Australia’s Twitter account).

Not much else is known at this point but as Android Authority says, we should expect the Mate 10 Pro to have things like better resolution display, more RAM, and a boost in internal storage, among others. We just have to wait until next month to find out.

A mobile MMO based on ‘Game of Thrones’ is now up for pre-registration

If you’re suffering from Game of Thrones withdrawals, perhaps an upcoming massive multiplayer online (MMO) game based on the show might hit the spot? Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and HBO Global Licensing, together with game developer Turbine, just unveiled an upcoming game called Game of Thrones: Conquest and they’ve put it up for pre-registration on its official site. If you pre-register for the game you can get US$50 worth of free in-game content when it goes live.  These include Night’s Watch training gear and gold and resources you’ll need to gain control over the Iron Throne.

Yes, this MMO lets you control your own powerful house in Westeros as you’ll try to claim the Iron Throne. You can rule your house however you choose—through giant armies, forged alliances, etc. Of course, you’re expected to defend your own house at the same time. The game is expected to launch later this year on both Android and iOS.

HBO’s ‘True Detective’ is coming back for season three, Mahershala Ali takes lead role

To say True Detective has been through a lot is an understatement. What was considered a great show in its first season fell by the wayside by its second season. And as The New York Times reports, few people expected it to make a comeback. But the show, which one starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, will be coming back for season 3 and this time, Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is taking the lead. He’ll be playing a state detective in Northwest Arkansas as a crime happens in the Ozark Mountains.

Not much else is known about the show but its creator Nic Pizzolatto will be writing most of the season and directed several episodes. David Milch, the creator of HBO series like Deadwood and Luck co-wrote one episode with Pizzolatto. For the rest of the season, Jeremy Saulnier will be taking the role of director. No word yet on when the show is coming out as well.
