Pokémon Go catches all, including your Google account info

News about Pokémon Go has taken over the internet but not all of them is good. A recent discovery by researcher Adam Reeve found that when you sign into the game using your Google account, you give them full access to everything. And it doesn’t even warn you in the sign-in process that you’re doing so (even if that’s what usually happens). It seems to affect both iOS and Android users and what giving full access means is they can do things like read your email, send you email, access your Google Drive documents, see your search and Maps history, view your private photos, etc. It seems to be a major oversight for Niantic Labs and a security risk you might want to look into. For now, what you can do is revoke permissions from this page and you’re signed out. According to The Verge, the app’s functionality isn’t affected. Niantic hasn’t issued a comment on the matter yet.

Land Rover wants to take autonomous vehicles to all terrains

Self-driving car research is moving along on nice, paved roads. But it hasn’t really made any progress off-road. And that’s what Land Rover is working on. They’re working on all-terrain, self-driving technology that will allow the cars to be used on varied surfaces. This technology makes use of cameras, radar, ultrasonic sound, and lidar to sense the terrain their driving on and adapt accordingly. It can even account for low-hanging branches as well as other obstacles that can ruin the ride or put you in danger.

Another feature is allowing cars to be linked together in an “off-road connected convoy” so the cars will share everything from location to things like suspension and wheel positions. If, for example, the lead car gets stuck, then the others can stop or change course to not fall into a similar predicament. There isn’t any specific timeline yet when we’d see these driverless off-road vehicles but we’d love to see them soon..

Take a look at Apollo 11’s source code on GitHub

This isn’t the first time Apollo 11’s source code has appeared online. Google’s hosted it a few years ago. But to make it easier to look for it, the code is now up on Github. Former NASA intern Chris Garry put up all the Apollo Guidance Computer source code on the site to see how NASA was able to make that mission to the Moon.

It isn’t even all serious business as Reddit users have noticed things like the line 666 of the lunar landing turns up a “numero mysterioso.” Also in the code is a reference to radio DJ Magnificent Montague’s classic “burn, baby, burn.” Having the code up on GitHub will give it access to a whole new audience, which may or may not affect development in the future.

Apple to open iOS Developer Academy in Italy this October

Looking to help out aspiring iOS developer in Europe, Apple will finally be opening its first iOS App Development Center at the Università di Napoli Federico II in Italy. The program starts in October and will run for nine months. It isn’t open just to Italian students but to applications from anywhere in Europe. There will be two parts to the program with the first half going into iOS software development and the second half focusing on app design and startups.

Aside from that, Apple has partnered with Italian organizations and companies to help with course content and students have access to on-campus labs with the latest Apple hardware and software. There are 200 students who were chosen to participate. They had to go through a test and interview and afterwards they get into the program for free. Apple plans to bring this course to other parts of the world as well with the next location being in Bengaluru, India.
