Latest Twitter update adds 3D Touch Peek and Pop feature

In case you didn’t notice the latest minor update from Twitter introduces a new 3D Touch feature. The app now gets 3D Touch Peek and Pop for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. The new feature, of course, lets you “peek” at things like URLs, images, videos, and profiles. Other than that, Twitter really didn’t have much to say about this update. Instead they describe version 6.54 as “A few minor updates that you didn’t even know you needed.” Okay then.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ vinyl has 3D holograms etched on them

Vinyl has been experiencing a major comeback recently so it comes as no surprise that Disney is exploring the medium to release a unique vinyl album for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The two LP set has 3D holograms etched right into the surface of the records. One has the Millennium Falcon and the other the TIE Fighter. If you look at the records while they spin from the right angle, you’ll be able to see wire forms of the ships floating and rotating.

Disney hired holographic artist Tristan Duke to make this happen. Duke has made similar etched artwork on vinyl for Jack White’s Lazaretto Ultra LP. Expect this to be priced around US$50 (around CA$65) when it’s released on June 17^th through Disney Music Emporium and Amazon.

Google Photos rumoured to soon offer unlimited storage for ‘original quality’ photos on Nexus phones

In case you didn’t know Google Photos has been offering unlimited storage for all its users. The caveat is it’s for the compressed versions of photos and not as Google terms it “original quality.” If you own a Nexus device though, you might soon be able to upload your photos in its full resolution, no matter what size it is. Android Police did a full APK teardown of the newest Google Photos version and found a promo for Nexus devices. It says, “With Nexus, back up all you want. Unlimited free storage for original quality photos and videos uploaded from your Nexus device.” This’ll come in handy in the future especially with the advent of higher resolution smartphone cameras plus 2K and 4K video recording.

‘No Man’s Sky’ release pushed back to August

We’ve been waiting three years since No Man’s Sky was introduced but it looks like we have to wait a wee bit more. Hello Games, No Man’s Sky’s developer, announced that they will be pushing the North American release of the game to August 9^th after it was previously announced to be released next month for both the Sony PlayStation 4 and PC. Hello Games’s Sean Murray said the delay is due to “some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards.” And with such a gigantic release backed by lots of hype, Murray is right to say that they needed to get this right: “For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.”

To say that No Man’s Sky is an ambitious sci-fi game is an understatement. The game is set in a procedurally-generated universe that has over 18 quintillion planets that you can explore. Each of these planets have their own unique ecosystems and wildlife. And while every player is going to be in the same virtual universe, with that amount of virtual planets, it’ll become unlikely you’d run into someone there, making its players usually the first people to step into a particular planet.
