Report claims Google working on new messaging service to take on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger

If you think Google already has one in the form of Hangouts, well it would seem Google has different plans. According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is reportedly developing a new messaging service to take on the likes of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Skype. What would set it apart is it would supposedly have artificial intelligence and chatbot technology incorporated into it. This will let users ask questions from within the app as well as receive answers from the web. There is no official word on this report yet so we have to wait for confirmation, if there is any.

Microsoft delays Windows 10 Mobile update for older devices to 2016

Microsoft isn’t doing itself any favours with this latest news. The company announced it will be delaying the update for some Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 phones until “early next year.” Originally, Windows 10 Mobile was supposed to roll out this month. For now, you only get access to Windows 10 Mobile if you have the Lumia 950 or 950 XL.

The other bad news is they aren’t even specifying which Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 devices will be getting Windows 10 Mobile update. With its already tiny 1.7 percent market share, according to the latest Gartner figures on the third quarter of 2015, this isn’t helping them out the least.

Google tests out new login that replaces your password for your phone

Google has started limited testing of its new password-free login feature. It made its first appearance when the Marshmallow API was unveiled at Google I/O this year. According to reddit user named Rohit Paul, the new feature would need a compatible device like the Nexus 6P. You have to authorize your phone to log into your account. And then when you sign into your Google account on your computer, you type in your email and then you’ll get a message on your phone to allow the login. If you hit yes, the computer will log into your Google account without you having to input a password. It works similar to how two-factor authentication does except you don’t have to input a code into your PC when you receive a notification on your phone.

BMW and Nissan partner to create joint fast-charger network in the US

In a move that threatens Tesla’s own Supercharger network, BMW and Nissan have partnered to develop their own public network of fast-charging stations across the United States. This new DC fast-charging network is made up of 120 stations across 19 states. Each station makes use of dual 50kW DC Fast-charging station with CHAdeMO and CCS (Combo) connectors that can charge Nissan LEAF and BMW i3 vehicles. It promises that you’ll reach 80 percent charge in about 20 to 30 minutes.

But a more important point is it uses popular charger styles, which means any EV with a quick-charge port will be able to use it to charge up. LEAF and i3 drivers will be able to locate these stations using in-vehicle navigation or the i Remote app for BMW or Nissan’s EZ-Charge smartphone app. There is no word yet when the network will be completed.
