Google Now on Tap makes a comeback on Android 6.0 preview

There was a brief period a couple of weeks back when Google Now on Tap feature got activated on devices running Android 6.0 preview. Now on Tap lets users pull up relevant information within any app, so you don’t have to leave what you’ve been doing to get more information. But that was short-lived since the feature wasn’t exactly ready for prime time so Google pulled the plug on it. But now that Android Marshmallow is as official as it can get, it would seem the feature is back on again. So those using the latest 6.0 preview might get a chance to use this feature.

Google Maps gets Apple Watch support

The latest update for Google’s mapping service on iOS brings with it Apple Watch support, among several new features. You can use your Apple Watch to get you directions to different places. You can now also compare ETAs of different modes of transportation to see how much faster you can get to your chosen destination. You can even call a business to get directions to a location from a list. The usual bug fixes have also been added into this version 4.11.0 update.

Skype introduces Android Wear support

Microsoft’s messaging service Skype is coming to your Android Wear-donning wrist. The latest app update now supports Google’s wearable platform. You can read and reply to messages right from it either by using pre-written responses or by using the voice-to-text feature. You can even draw emojis on the watchface and that app will recognize those. You can take calls from it but, of course, this’ll push it back to your phone.

Skype names some Android Wear watches that the messenger will work with including Moto 360, Huawei Watch, LG Watch Urbane, and ASUS ZenWatch. You can try it out with the other smartwatches you have though, they might be able to work since Skype didn’t say any limitations in its announcement post.

GoPro introduces wireless capabilities to latest affordable action cam

You’d have to shell out a lot more than US$300 to get wireless capability on your GoPro action camera. This time though, GoPro’s introducing the new Hero+ the $200 option with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It can take videos with up to 1080p/60fps video resolution, 8-megapixel stills in time-lapse or five photos per second burst modes. It integrates other features like QuikCapture one-button control for speedier recording; HiLight Tag; and Low Light mode.

The Hero+ comes with a watertight case you can take up to a depth of 131 ft. If you record at the maximum resolution, you should last for about an hour and 45 minutes with Wi-Fi on or around two hours with Wi-Fi off. It doesn’t have its own LCD viewfinder though. The new Hero+ will be available next month starting October 4^th in stores and online.
