YouTube now lets you watch 60fps videos on Android, iOS

A switch has been flipped in the backend of YouTube. Users viewing videos on the Android and iOS apps of the video streaming app can now watch select clips in 60 frames per second. We say select because not everyone uploads videos at 60fps. It seems there isn’t even an app update you need to download for this to be activated.

If you’re on mobile data though, you have to be a bit wary of watching videos in 60fps and even the latest 1440p resolution that YouTube also supports. That is unless you want to max out your monthly data allocation. But if you're on Wi-Fi, you have nothing to worry about.

Microsoft Lumia 535 and Lumia 640 XL land in Canada

Microsoft is debuting two of its new handsets on our shores: Lumia 535 and Lumia 640 XL. The Lumia 535 comes equipped with a 5-inch display, 5MP rear and 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera. You get 8GB internal memory with expansion up to 128GB via microSD. If that isn’t enough, you also get 30GB of free storage from OneDrive. It comes in bright blue, green, orange, matte grey, black, and white. Meanwhile, the Lumia 640 XL is a gigantic smartphone with a 5.7-inch display and 13MP ZEISS optics rear camera with 1080p video capture support. You get the full Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) pre-loaded on this device. It comes in white.

The Lumia 535 retails for $179, while the Lumia 640 XL is available for $339. Both can be bought exclusively at the Microsoft store. Microsoft promises the latest Windows Phone experience on these devices and regular over-the-air updates.

Spotify user creates playlist for most of Beats 1 music

Spotify user Peter Bowles is taking on a rather tedious role. He’s recreating most of the music being played on Apples new radio streaming service and putting them into a Spotify playlist. It was inevitable that this would happen. Now, if you just want to listen to the tunes being played on Beats 1, you can check it out. But yes, you won’t be hearing Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden, and Julie Adenuga on this playlist. You also obviously won’t be hearing Taylor Swift’s songs and even the new Pharrell song (which Bowles replaced with “Happy” instead). We’re not sure how long they’re going to keep this up. But this’ll help you see what direction the new radio service is going in with playlists like these. Of course, if you want to check it out through Apple, they've released the playlist curated by Zane Lowe already.

Beats 1 Radio takes in song requests

Want to hear your jam playing on Apple’s new live radio service? Well, you can request for it and possibly hear it through Beats 1 radio’s new Requests segment hosted by Travis Mills. Apple Music’s Tumblr shows the listing of numbers you can call to request a song. Countries like Canada, the US, the UK, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Ireland, and Italy can send in their requests. The segment will be playing at 5:00p.m. Pacific Time. We don’t know though if they plan to play the requested songs outside of Mills’ show.
