Samsung and Nike partner to introduce exclusive Nike+ Running app for Gear S

Samsung is looking for an edge for its first Tizen-powered smartwatch, Gear S. They have partnered with Nike to introduce a new exclusive Nike+ Running and Fitness app for the smartwatch. It is intended to turn the Gear S into a fitness tracker similar to what the FuelBand was. Because the Gear S has 3G capability, there is no need to use a smartphone to upload live progress statistics to Nike+ servers. It is also capable of collecting different information about your speed, distance, and route thanks to the GPS module. You can also check pace, direction, and heart rate right from the Gear S. Nike also introduced a Nike+ Coach functionality right into the app to help runners keep in shape.

BlackBerry to reportedly launch Blend with Passport

Reports have surfaced that BlackBerry will be launching its Blend service alongside the release of Passport this month. Blend has never been officially confirmed by BlackBerry but it has been rumoured multiple times already.

The software service is reportedly meant to bridge the gap between devices and other mobile devices. It is designed to let users access files and messages stored in their BB devices on other gadgets such as computers and tablets. The service will reportedly support calendar, BBM and SMS messages, emails, files, etc. Those who use Blend in a corporate environment with BES10 will also be able to access their company’s intranet with the use of a browser. It will also allow for backing up and restoring data. Blend will also supposedly support BB devices running OS 10.3 or later, Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.7 or later, as well as iOS 6 and Android 4.4 or later.

Report claims Apple partners with American Express for mobile payments in iPhone 6

Days away from the upcoming Apple event and the rumour mill is abuzz with life. A new report has surfaced saying Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to bring new mobile payment systems for the upcoming iPhone. This is in line with part leaks that have shown the presence of NFC (finally) in the iPhone 6. There are credit card companies that support NFC use for wireless payments and hopefully Apple’s supposed entry into the space might push merchants to support this kind of payment system. We’ll just have to wait a bit more to see if there is any truth to the new rumour.
