Visa Canada to help you plan your kid’s prom with Plan’it Prom

A new survey from Visa Canada reports Canadians spend 26% less on prom than our American counterparts. Also, we are willing to shoulder 81% of the cost for our teens as opposed to 56% American parents are willing to cover for their teenagers.

In order to keep all these expenses in check, Visa Canada has unveiled a free smartphone app called Plan’it Prom. The app covers different aspects of prom planning, including features such as a budget calculator, prom countdown, budget health meter, and prom timeline.

Netflix starts 4K streaming of ‘House of Cards’

If you own a 4K TV, then you can finally take advantage of the feature that costs you thousands of dollars. Netflix has started streaming its smash hit House of Cards in 4K resolution. But you’d have to make sure the TV has HEVC/H.265 decoding though. Other than that, we think you’re all good to stream the show in all that high resolution goodness.

Netflix hasn’t said what else they plan to upgrade to 4K next but we will keep you posted when we find out.

MediaFire takes out file size restriction as it takes desktop apps out of beta

MediaFire is looking to compete with the big dogs of cloud storage by taking its apps for Windows and OS X out of beta. The apps work similarly to the desktop apps of Dropbox, OneDrive, and Google Drive. It lets users upload files and photos instantly and share these with other people. Users can now also track new files shared by others. The file upload restriction has also been lifted for both free and paid users. You can now upload file sizes of up to 20 gigabytes.

The company also intends to launch iPad and Android apps in the coming weeks. MediaFire is also introducing a new one terabyte storage plan that will cost US$2.50 a month or $24.99 a year for a limited time. If you’re just looking for a larger cloud storage site, now might be the time to check out MediaFire’s offering.

Twitter’s new profile layout looks much like a Facebook profile

You’re not alone in thinking that the profile redesign on Twitter looks very much like your Facebook profile page. Twitter has started to roll out the new look to a select number of users, including Hollywood stars like Zac Efron, Channing Tatum, and Kerry Washington. The header photo is stretched out at the top of the site, you get a square to left for your profile photo, your followers and photos are tiles at the bottom of your profile. Yup, it definitely has a Facebook feel to it.

Aside from the new look, Twitter will make the font size bigger for your tweets that get the most engagement. You can also pin one of your best tweets to the top of the page. And you can choose what type of tweets you can see when you view another user’s timeline, including just the tweets, tweets with photos or videos, or tweets and replies. The new features will reportedly be coming out in the next few weeks.
