ZTE combines personal hotspot and projector in one device

The China-based mobile company ZTE seems to think it’s a perfectly okay idea to merge a personal hotspot and projector in one gadget and call it aptly enough as the Projector Hotspot. The projector and portable Wi-Fi unit can project 120-inch images and videos on surfaces and it supports 1080p resolution input. The OS of the hotspot is based on Android 4.2 and is capable of supporting up to eight users to connect to the 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi network with 4G LTE capability. It is also built with a 4-inch colored touch-screen with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution to access the controls.

The device also comes equipped with HDMI port, headset jack for audio out, and mirroring capabilities through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi display. How long will it keep running on a single charge? The 5,000 mAh battery should power it for a while.

Toshiba unveils camera module with Lytro-like capabilities

Toshiba announced the company’s efforts to develop a new camera module designed to allow refocusing for smartphone photos. The TCM9518MD module will be built with two 5-megapixel sensors and a dedicated processing chip to take both image and depth information and allow for after image refocusing (much like what the Lytro camera is doing).

The module is up for sampling at the moment, which means manufacturers can order small batches of the module to test for future devices.

Razer introduces next-gen gaming PC concept

If Razer has its way, then the next-generation of PC gaming machines will be so much easier to assemble. Codenamed Project Christine looks like a futuristic computing rack that is designed to allow gamers to swap modules of CPU, memory, GPU, and the like and have them automatically sync with the system. The modules are going to come with built-in liquid cooling and noise cancellation features and will also be cable-free.

Sony tracks your life with the Core

Sony is upping the ante in the wearable tech segment with its recently launched Core tracker. The device is designed to monitor various aspects of your life, such as sleeping schedule, music you listen to, photos you take, the steps you make, etc. The information the Core collects will be presented in a grid format to allow users to examine how they live their lives. The waterproof device will connect to your device through Bluetooth but Sony hasn’t revealed much about the specifics of the device. The tech company plans to release more details at Mobile World Congress.
