HTC One M8 Google Play edition gets Android 5.1 update

Android 5.1 makes its way to HTC One M8 Google Play edition without much fanfare. The update clocks in at 244MB large. It tweaks how notifications interruptions are handled and it introduces animations and cosmetic changes. Of course, the usual bug fixes are in there as well. There isn't any word on how wide the rollout is but it should be coming your way soon.

BlackBerry Leap apps and features demoed in video

BlackBerry has produced a brief video showing the upcoming BlackBerry Leap as well as some of its features and apps on the new smartphone's 5-inch HD display. The BlackBerry Leap has been available for pre-registration and is coming to US and European markets this month. Canadian customers will have to 'stay tuned' for specific information but we've been told that we shouldn't have to wait long to see this new handset being offered by carriers. BlackBerry Leap is expected to cost CAD $349 without contract if bought directly from ShopBlackBerry.

Instagram introduces new Fade and Color features to its Android app

Instagram usually updates its iOS app before its Android  app. The photo sharing app has been an iOS-exclusive for a while. Now, there seems to be a role reversal of sorts. Instagram is introducing two new tools to Android before their iOS release. The Android app is getting Fade and Color editing tools.

As the names suggest, Fade lets you mute colors and soften lines for that darkroom feel. You adjust it via the slider mechanism. Color, on the other hand, offers various tint images to change the hues and, well, color of your image. The version 6.19.0 is already rolling out today. iOS users don't have to wait too long though. It'll be coming to you "in a few days."
