Google's Duo app aims to simplify encrypted 1-to-1 video calling on Android and iOS

Google just released Duo for Android devices in Canada (iOS version is expected to follow shortly). Duo is a simple 1-to-1 video calling that takes the complexity out of video calling. All you need is your phone number and you’ll be able to reach anyone in your address book. No separate account is required, so you can sign up in just a few steps.

Google says that Duo is fast and reliable, so that video calls connect quickly and work well no matter what network. Call quality adjusts to changing network conditions to keep you connected. For video calls on the go, Duo will switch seamlessly between Wi-Fi and cellular data automatically without dropping your call.

Knock Knock makes every call feel more like an invitation rather than an interruption, allowing you to see live video of the caller before you answer and get a sense of what they’re up to. Finally, Duo was built with an emphasis on privacy and security and all Duo calls are end-to-end encrypted. Duo looks to be as simple to use as Apple's Facetime video calling app but has the advantage of being cross platform. Duo can also be seen as competition for Skype and similar video calling applications.

In order to use the service/app both phone will need to have the app installed. System requirements for Android phones Jelly Bean and higher, and iPhones with iOS 9 and higher.

No Man's Sky is available today exclusively on PS4 and Windows 10

Deeply immersive and atmospheric, Hello Games' PS4 and Windows 10-exclusive No Man's Sky is available from video game stores and as a digital download.  Based on exploration, survival, combat and trading, the game puts players in the front seat of an open universe composed 18 quintillion planets that are randomly generated (as is the electronic-ambient soundtrack).

While futuristic and immense in scale, No Man's Sky seems to thrive on human nature. Survival. Hunting and gathering and the innate sense of curiosity to discover new world's and life forms. There's also the promise of lots of interstellar flight, first-person shooting battles and various surprises in single player or multi-player mode.

HP's Elite X3 available on HP.com starting September 3

The most promising advancement in Windows Phones....Ok, the ONLY advancement in Windows Phones this year seems to be HP's Elite X3, the enterprise-focused flagship device that's designed to work as a desktop and notebook replacement (together with some costly accessories), will reportedly be shipping to US customers on September 5 with orders starting on August 29.

The closest thing to the mythical 'Surface Phone' ideal, the Elite X3 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, a 5.96" 1440p AMOLED display. This is more horespower than many cheap Windows tablets and should be sufficient for running Windows 10 on Continuum as well as some productivity apps.

The HP Elite X3 was announced way back in February. We don't know if it is going to be available in Canada or what the pricing would be if that is the case. US pricing is supposed to start at $700 without the accessories.
