Sharp launches revolutionary Quattron TVs

Sharp Electronics  introduced its next generation series of AQUOS LED LCD TVs to the design and lifestyle media community at the HAWORTH Toronto Showroom. With a presentation from leading design and decorating authority Cobi Ladner, Sharp Electronics revealed the new TVs as an important part of the future of colour in homes across Canada. Hit jump to see the awesome spot with George Takei of Star Trek and Heroes fame.

Demoed during the event were the new TVs , which in a side by side comparison with older Sharp LCD TVs looked stunning and rich with the added yellow range giving a new degree of vibrancy and visual resonance. Sharp also demoed some of the upcoming features such as Netflix video rentals and real-time tech support via Internet connection.

Featuring its industry-first four-primary-colour Quattron technology, which adds the colour yellow to its UltraBrilliant Edge-lit AQUOS LED LCD TVs, the introduction means Canadians will now have the opportunity to see more colours than ever before on their TV.

Cobi Ladner discusses the importance of colour at the Shap Quattron Launch Event

Recent research found that a better colour display is the most important feature to Canadians who own a TV, outranking several other features including a bigger screen size and 3-D technology, which was deemed the least important feature. A better colour display is also growing in importance for Canadians. In a similar survey done in 2009, 32 per cent of respondents ranked a better colour display as one of their top two most important features in a TV. In 2010, that number rose to 46 per cent.

Bill Friend, assistant VP for consumer products launches Quattron in Canada

Adding yellow to the standard red, green and blue colour filter allows you to see a vast array of colours never before seen on traditional 3 colour TV, such as the golden yellow colour of brass instruments, Caribbean blues and sunflower yellows. The end result is a more realistic gold, yellow, blue and green colour gamut displayed on AQUOS Quattron Series TVs, representing nearly all colours that can be discerned with the unaided human eye.

"As the first company to bring LCD TVs to Canadians, we continue to be laser-focused on advancing technologies that make TV viewing more enjoyable," said Bill Friend, Assistant Vice President, Consumer Products Division, Sharp Canada. "With our new Quattron technology, we've changed the way an LCD TV produces an image, allowing us to broaden the visual experience and immerse viewers in a whole new world of colour."

“The future of colour in Canada is bright,” said Cobi Ladner, leading design and decorating authority. “Letting colour inspire us every day, especially when decorating our homes is the key to creating spaces we love to live in and can share with confidence. I believe that Canadians are ready to bring colour back into their homes and lives – that’s the most important trend on the horizon.”

LE810 & LE820 Series

The new AQUOS LE810 and LE820 Series feature a stunning new contemporary edge-light design with a full-front glass infinity design. At only 1.6-inches thin, the full-front panel glass on the LE820 Series extends to meet the slim border for a subtle edge that befits the elegance of a modern home.

Some of the benefits of LED technology from Sharp
The AQUOS LE810 and LE820 Series offer various large-screen options, including sizes of 40-inches, 46-inches, 52-inches and 60-inches. Combining Sharp's X-Gen LCD Panel with an UltraBrilliant Edge-lit LED backlight, these new TVs display vibrant colors and deep blacks.  In addition, Sharp's proprietary Fine Motion Enhanced technology is included for 120 Hz Frame Rate Conversion, as well as fast response time (4 ms) for a beautiful, smooth picture.

Industry Leading Energy Efficiency

The new AQUOS LED LCD TV with Quattron technology product lines are compliant with Energy Star® Version 4.0 standards which become effective in May 2010, as well as meeting Energy Star Version 5.0 standards which become effective in May 2011.

Sharp’s 1080p X-Gen LCD panel, which incorporates UV2A Technology, offers a dramatic reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional fluorescent-backlight LCD TVs. These new series are also equipped with Sharp’s OPC function that automatically adjusts the unit’s brightness based on the lighting of the room, again enhancing the energy efficiency of these TVs.

The LE810 and LE820 Series are also enabled with Netflix video streaming capability and the newest version of AQUOSNet which gives users instant access to customized Web-based content as well as AQUOS Advantage Live real-time customer support which is available for the life of the product.

AQUOA LED LCD TV's with Quattron technology start at $1,800 for a 40-inch model and go all the way to $3,799 for the 60-inch LC60LE820UN model.
