Motoring: 2011 Audi A8 first production car to come with mobile hotspot

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Audi's latest flagship saloon, the 2011 A8 will feature technology that allows it to become a mobile hotspot. This means better integration with the Internet on-the-go as well as the ability to maintain sustained connections to GPS enabled Google Maps plus allowing up to eight devices high speed access.

"Marvell and Harman Automotive integrated MMH technology into the Audi vehicle through a built-in WLAN module, enabling high speed online and internet access via cellular link or Bluetooth connected mobile devices," Marvell said.

"The MMH technology implements a full-featured, WLAN access point integrated entirely on the wireless chip. The technology integrated into Harman connectivity system realizes a full-featured local Wi-Fi mobile hotspot within the vehicle, giving passengers access to Web-based services. Up to eight devices can be supported, from Smartphones to high-performance tablets and other advanced mobile devices like Wi-Fi enabled digital cameras, laptops and portable gaming devices."

The best thing about this is that the mobile hotspot feature isn't taxing on connected devices so they wont drain their batteries as much while accessing the Internet.

The current  Audi A8 sells in Canada for $99,000 starting price for the current 4.2L V8 model.
