Review: Boomphones headphones

Boomphones are quickly becoming synonymous with portable Hi-Fi sound quality.   I was very excited to pick up my pair of Boomphones, which retail for $169.95 and offer a number of unique features never seen before in this product segment.

Costing less than the popular Beats by Dre headphones, Boomphones offer getting equal sound quality with one major difference, something that has not been done until now……  Boomphones comes with an external speaker system.  With the external speaker system you are now able to share your music with your friends with out having to pass around your headphones.

This smart approach is great for people who need headphones most of the time but who also need the versatility of external speakers.

The external speakers are activated by turning the power switch on, followed by pushing the bomb logo, positioned on the left ear; a red LED ring lights up around the button indicating the external speaker is active.

Turn the power switch on, and AMP up your internal listening experience, the ring around the bomb logo will glow white.  The headphones are packaged in a hard case  and come with a boomshell traveling case, which holds the headphones and accessories.

When it comes to music, the choice of headphone makes a huge difference in sound quality and will affect the entire listening experience.  Boomphones makes listening to music  an incredible and immersive experience that is often lost using cheaper and less quality headphones. With the crisp sound quality on the regular play mode, amplifying the internals can replicate the music experience of the club or concert to you.

When plugged into my 16 GB iPod Touch the sound quality is so pure  and clear that it feels like you are in the recording studio with the band.  As well playing games on the iPod Touch on the external speakers adds another dimension to the gaming experience.

When using my Boomphones to watch TV shows and movies on my laptop, the surround sound really kicks in and allows you to get fully immersed in the experience.  By amplifying internally, it acts as a mini-subwoofer, that helps add to the sound quality and listening experience with a fuller sound.

The external speakers don’t have to be used only to listen to music out loud; they can also be used as a mini amp for your electric guitar.

Included in the Boomphones packaging comes a 6.3mm jack that allows you to connect the headphones to a guitar amp.

If you ever get in the mood to jam out at night when everybody in your house is sleeping you can just plug in Boomphones, turn on the externals and not have to worry about waking up the house or even blowing out your eardrums. I know this has come in handy for me when I’m in the mood to be creative at night.

Boomphones has included two interchangeable audio cables.  The first is your standard audio cable, 3.5mm to 3.5mm, and the second has a volume control with an integrated mic, and a push-to-talk capabilities.  This is great for those people who use their phones to listen to music; this also adds to the users convenience so they don’t have to switch cables or talk into the phone.

I have found this feature very handy when using my phone to listen to music and I start getting phone calls especially in the cold weather. The external speakers come in handy as a speakerphone system, adding more to the diversity of this amazing product.

With Boomphones innovative design they are surely going to reign supreme when people think about performance headphones.
